Well, this is the first English idiom on the new blog site...
This week's idiom is "pick up".
The usual use of the verb:
Pick up your pencil. It's on the floor.
Idiom use:
I'm going to the store to pick up some beer. Do you need anything?
A: What should we have for dinner?
B: I'll just pick up a pizza on the way home from work.
B: I'll just pick up a pizza on the way home from work.
So...in this case "pick up" means to go and buy something that doesn't take much time or thought. You have a favorite beer, so you don't need to think about it too much. Pizza is a quick and easy decision for take out.
Enjoy!
